Hello, my name is Robert Carlson.  Most people call me Doctor Rob.  Like most doctors, I have a long string of letters that come after my name.  These are impressive when you know what they mean, but usually only other doctors know what they mean.  However, my goal is to help people, not to impress other doctors.  Because one of those other doctors is probably your doctor and some of what I say about medicine is controversial, I would probably not be helping you much if your doctor asks “who told you this?” the best answer you had was “some guy named Rob on the internet.”  I imagine that wouldn’t convince him of anything, I know it wouldn’t convince me if I were sitting in their shoes.  So, I will share a few of the important ones that you can add to your “Rob on the internet” reply.

MD - Medicinæ Doctor or better known as Doctor of Medicine.  There are over 660,000 of us in the U.S.
FACS – Fellow of the American College of Surgeons.  There are about 75,000 of us in the U.S. and Canada.

As you can see, these titles are fairly common in the field of medical doctors.  When it comes to controversial topics, cutting edge technology, and breakthroughs in medicine, a doctor needs some kind of “he knows what he’s talking about” stamp of approval.  You need evidence that the person is more than just familiar with medical research.  The evidence is my published research - research that won awards.

So, on to those controversial topics I mentioned.  Above this text, you can see a few topics that are my current fields of research.  If you click on any of those links, you will find some information about the work I am doing in that specific field.
